Mako & Bristow are back in the game with Vol. 4 of their super juicy Stank Soul Edits. Kicking off the A side is Mable John's Stax belter 'Wait You Dog' given the Stank treatment, turning up the production to 11 and giving it a lot more depth and kick which is why this series, well, kicks. How many original soul 45s have you got that sometimes you think 'I wish it was a bit tougher'? Yes, I know pure soul aficionados will baulk at that, but for freestyle DJs a chunky version of a soul classic is something welcomed for getting in the mix with, and dancefloors love it. The A side closes out with another soul groover in the shape of 'Love Book', beefed right up of course. And over on the flip Johnny Otis' 'Willie And The Hand Jive' benefits from the Stank mixing desk with the trademark chunkification of the drums, widening of the sonics and sped up for the floor. Slightly more than an edit, this series treats the tracks like a remix with a considered approach, bringing out warmth and depth that is more coherent with contemporary production techniques, and in doing so will stand up sonically in the mix.
