All Stars 'Juice Crew Law' (DNA Records)

'Juice Crew Law' / 'C.O.T.T.'
(DNA Records)

God daaaaaaamn, this is a plan that came together well!

A supergroup of UK hip hop practitioners featuring Whirlwind D, DJ DSK, Chrome, Specifik and Mr Wonderful have joined their considerable talents in celebration of the Shanghai-based BBoy crew Juice Crew, and the result is straight-up gold. Pure fire from the first JB shout till the last horn stab, with high-level steez in between. Outrageously funky, tight cuts and raps with all the UK flavour you might possibly need. There's no celebration of nonsense here (guns, money, etc blah blah blah), this is about the culture, with the integrity of the art form front and centre in every beat and rhyme. Naturally there's a solid extended break like ending for all the bboys and bgirls to let rip on too. MC Shan's legendary hit from 1988 formed the inspiration for this and I'm pretty sure he'd be happy with what the crew have done here, and even if you're not completely consumed in hip hop culture as this lot most certainly are, this gem is also a straight-up dancefloor banger. Winning on all fronts!

Flip for another gem with DSK joining Akil (Jurassic 5) and Mystro for a pan-Atlantic/Pacific delight. This one is just vibes, an atmospheric head-nodding joint that sometimes sounds a little Krush like which ain't no bad thing. Great to hear Mystro (MysDiggi) on this too...he's been the 45 Live MC for our live shows at festivals these past few years. All in all a heavyweight 45, a double A-side and soon to be perrenial in any self respecting DJs play box.
