Mukatsuku Presents
Two Sides of Funky Club Jazz Vol. 3 - Mod Jazz Edition
Billy Hawks
Whip It On Me' / 'Got My Mojo Working (But It Just Won't Work On You)'
(Mukatsuku)
Billy Hawks first shot to wider acclaim within club culture in the early 90's with his seminal jazz club stomper, 'O Baby (I Believe I'm losing You)' as sampled by Acid Jazz Records' The Humble Souls on their equally seminal 'Beads, Things And Flowers'. This record most definitely made me look deeper into Billy Hawks' music, and there I discovered the LPs 'Heavy Soul ' and 'New Genius Of The Blues' and quickly acquired them. It is these 2 LPs that Mukatsuku have mined the tracks for this essential limited 45. The A side cut 'Whip It On Me' is an out-and-out grinding organ stomper with a furious tempo for peak-time dance-floor abandonment, whilst the flip features a swinging rendition of the classic 'Got My Mojo Working' complete with vibrant guitar from Joseph Jones and gutsy vocals from Billy. Just so nice to have these 2 cuts on one 45, big thanks to Nik Weston for providing! Get in quick, limited stocks.
As a foot note, check the vids for 'O Baby...' and the sampled from classic from The Humble Souls, great stuff!
