Delvon Lamarr (organ), Jimmy James (guitar) and Dan Weiss (drums) are leading the way in 2020 for organ-led soul-jazz, a deep musical vein that stretches back to the 60s and that is rich in nasty-face grooves. This 45 is one of those, especially on the B-side with their spectacular version of Marvin Gaye's 'Inner City Blues'. Maaaaan, it's smoking, everything is just perfect...fabulous keys, crisp guitar and snappy drums all working in harmony, no doubt benefitted from a production that Rudy Van Gelder would be proud of. The perfectly measured break down towards the end just adds that extra special something. I completely and utterly love it.
Meanwhile on the A-side, 'Fo Sho' ticks all the same boxes, the guys just knock it out of the park. I don't really need to say much about this record because if you've already pressed play, then you've already pressed 'buy'.
One of the BEST single releases of 2020.
