Out for a short while now is this tasty instrumental beats laden 45 from DJ Pnutz. Hailing from California, this DJ doesn't really need highlight that this is 'pretty good for a girl', as it's pretty good for anyone to have made, but as the reality is that it's mostly the male of the species making beats, then I guess why not point it out?! 2 distinct flavours here with the A-side doing it for me. Jerky beats and subtle Rhodes licks that make me think of an almost Chicago house vibe, it's those Rhodes licks that reminds me of the recent (and thoroughly excellent) deep disco/house album by Boogienite. Yet house music it isn't, it's a beautifully arranged, meandering and atmospheric journey into the art of beat making. Flip over for a more dancefloor-driven number with 'Play That Beat Mrs DJ'. Once again the arrangement is great, but maybe the production is a little 'dry' to my ears, needs more grit! And make sure you check her 1st vinyl pressing of the track 'Marianne' taken from the digital-only album 'Rackmount'. 'Marianne' absolutely kicks ass and is only $5! Believe.
