Who, apart from ourselves has been watching the clock, patiently waiting for Flevans to deliver some fresh goodness to keep ‘em on the floor and to satisfy the DJ’s hunger for that new heat. The wait is finally over because he’s finally delivered his fifth long player entitled ‘Part Time Millionaire’. In this review we focus on his latest disco tinged 7” ‘Who’s Got Me’ which features a young lady who is simply outstanding in her chosen field. We first stumbled upon the vocal prowess of Laura Vane when she had The Vipertones to compliment her particular brand of sister funk. This time however she’s teamed up with Flevans who’s unique funk driven production perfectly complements Vane’s flow. We’re very much looking forward to seeing this particular partnership blossom and bear fruit.
On ‘Take Your Money’, Favela ramps it up with some curious Hammond stabs and an infectious haunting vocal hook which the wah wah guitar wraps itself lovingly around and begins to affectionately mimic. Not only that but we also have soul brother Bobby Byrd drop in with three vowels and let’s face it this is a brand of funk that the JB’s would certainly approve of.
