Gizelle Smith – Sweet Memories / S.T.A.Y. (Jalapeno)
26th February 2018
A: Sweet Memories
I could wax lyrical for days about all that the city of Manchester has brought the world over the years but today I’m here to discuss the city’s funky soulstress Gizelle Smith and her collaboration with Stones Throw Records artist Eric Boss on this double sider on Jalapeno Records.
From the off Ms. Smith sets the mood and we’re in rainy but funky Manchester and the outpouring of raw emotion is evident as she lays bare her innermost thoughts at the local bus stop on ‘Sweet Memories’. This right here is a lesson on how it’s done the right way. Funk for a new generation.
On the B-side, ‘S.T.A.Y.’, she’s joined by the aforementioned vocalist Eric Boss and it must be stated anything this man puts his stamp on is worth picking up on sight. This cut is no different and the pair weave their vocals so skilfully and with a solid backbeat to push this already uplifting track to the skies we’re already on our knees pleading for another collaboration between these two.
