Funk fans take note! Jay Mumford & Soul Supreme's reimagining of the iconic funk monster '9th Wonder' doesn't so much kick in the front door as bull doze the whole house to dust with this low down stanky funk version. On '9th Wonder' the menacing synth intro makes way for some teflon coated drums from Mumford and the heavy, heavy monster sound is born. On the flip, ‘Re-Made For The Man', we get another helping of that heavy funk sound with that signature Soul Supreme sound, ably abetted by Mumford on the sticks. This double-sider of heat does more than scratch that funk itch and leaves us yearning for more from this duo.
Here is a creative partnership stretching back four years when DJ Soul Supreme reached out to Jay Mumford in New York to provide the backbone on his re-imagining of Q-Tip and J-Dilla’s ‘Let's Ride’. Fast forward to today and on the strength of this release we hope that this meeting of the minds will continue long into the future.
