Mako & Mr Bristow 'Stank Soul Edits Vol. 5'
'Funky Diggin' / 'Dynamic B-Boy'
(Breakbeat Paradise)
Stank Soul Edits hit's No. 5 and the lads have come through with the goods for maybe the best one yet. Originally on the Resense label, and now on Breakbeat Paradise, Mako & Mr Bristow's raison d'être is to unearth soul music that's obscure, or even just a bit 'lacking' sonically and then re-rubbing it with extra oomph for the dancefloor. It's a theme that floods the 45s market these days, think Soul Flip, Soopastole etc. Why? Because for DJs, records like this are simply great armoury tracks for the playbox, and we all hoover them up, right? Here on Vol. 5, 'Funky Diggin' is an edit of a wicked funk/soul/rock tune, the original of which I think I first heard on a DJ Format mixtape some years back (can't remember the name of it though). It's a beauty, phat, phunky with juiced up production that sounds GREAT on a big rig, essential stuff. It could have been a one-sided 45 just for this, but no, you also get 'Dynamic B-Boy' too, and with a title like that you know it's going to be uptempo. The Dynamic Corvettes' get the Stank Soul treatment which beefs up the OG with big drums and a general tightening up which brings it into line for a hip hop/breaks/funk/soul kinda set perfectly. Get stanked, get on it, NOW!
