I've been waiting for a new Ethiopian Brothers 45 ever since the incredible 'Ashadwa' dropped in 2019, which easily took the top spot in favourite 45s released that year and has never left my play crate since. Similarly, 'Selassie' is a driving afro-funk groover split over 2 parts, with a psyche guitar riff, sweet bass and tight drums laying down a solid foundation for cascading sax riffs, percussive flourishes and vocal chants. Produced by Soupe Sowell whose alter ego knows a thing or 2 about funk ;) This 45 doesn't quite hit the spectacular highs of 'Ashadwa', that was total perfection, but nonetheless, this 2nd offering mines the same veins of afro-funk gold that forms the foundations of the human symbiosis with rhythm. Another cracking 45, and I hope that the 3rd comes along a bit quicker than this. Get on it, and get on it now whilst you can.
