'Breakthrough' is the result of The Expansions getting up off their arses, rolling up their sleeves, finishing off the morning brew, wiping the toast crumbs from their gobs and getting the hell on with it! On 'Breakthrough', what we have is the sound of four pals jamming with a dirty great big grin from lug hole to lug hole. The music they produce is reflective of how much they enjoy doing what they do, and we are certainly enjoying the fruits of that process. Just under eight minutes in length, the boys, being lovers of the 7” format, decided to go back in and record a shortened arrangement to stick on a 45! We’re so glad they did.
While we patiently sit on our hands, crossing off the days on the calendar until we reach the release date of the LP, we can at least bask in 'Breakthrough’s effortless jazz funk glory on this 45. Out now on Albert’s Favourites.
