The Movers 'Soweto Disco - Voodoocuts edits' (Matasuna)

The Movers
'Soweto Disco' (Voodoocuts edit) / 'Shanana' (Voodoocuts Edit)
(Matasuna)
Hailing from the townships of 1960s South Africa, The Movers overcame many challenges: segregation, censorship, and limited opportunities to bring their music to a wider audience, and in doing so went on to become an incredibly successful band with a huge catalog, even if you've never heard of them until now (I fit into that catogory)! Step in Alex at Matasuna Records who has paired a couple of the band's original recordings with remixer extraordinaire Voodoocuts to bring them barnstorming into the contemporary disco scene.
The A side 'Soweto Disco' is a slice of bumpin' and grindin' disco, respectfully and beautifully dialled up a few notches by the skilled hands of Voodoocuts. The grit and guts are amplified with a thumping backing that will totally rock the floor. It has everything absolutely bang on; breakdowns, looped up sections, solos, and a wonderfully considered arrangement. Throw this on the turntable and wtach the floor ignite. And consider the B side a beautiful bumping bonus of beats, swirling organs and 70s vibes. Marvelous stuff.
